How to read a pouch label: strength, size, ingredients and dates

A field guide to the information on a nicotine, energy or functional pouch can — and which details matter when comparing prices.

On the lid

The lid usually shows the brand, the flavour and a strength indicator — a milligram number, a word or a dot scale. Check whether the number is per pouch or per gram (see our strength guide).

On the side or base

  • Number of pouches and net weight — needed to calculate price per pouch.
  • Format — slim, mini or regular; sometimes “dry” or “moist”.
  • Ingredients — fillers, flavourings, sweeteners and the active ingredient.
  • Best-before date and batch number.
  • Warnings — for example the nicotine addiction warning required in many markets.

Why the best-before date matters for price

Pouches lose moisture and flavour over time. Stores sometimes discount stock that is close to its best-before date — PouchHunters marks these as short-date deals. They can be good value if you will use them quickly.

Storage

Most brands recommend storing unopened cans somewhere cool and dry, and some suggest the fridge for long-term storage. Keep all nicotine products out of reach of children and pets.
