How to read nicotine strength
The number that matters is mg per pouch: how much nicotine is in the bag you put under your lip. Most brands print it. A few — Pablo, Siberia, some Killa products — print mg per gram, a concentration: a “50 mg” Pablo is 50 mg/g in a roughly 0.6 g pouch, so about 30 mg per pouch. Where a store states the per-pouch figure we use it; where only the per-gram figure exists, we show that and flag it on the product page.
Absorption is the other half. A pouch releases 20–40 % of its nicotine into the bloodstream over an hour, so a 6 mg pouch delivers something like a cigarette or two. That is why 6 mg is the sweet spot for smokers switching, and why a 20 mg pouch is a large dose by any measure.
The bands

Brand labels are not comparable
“Strong” means 8 mg at VELO, 9 mg at Nordic Spirit, 16 mg at Killa and 30 mg at Pablo. Dots, bars and words differ by brand and by market. The chart above sidesteps that by showing the actual mg range each brand sells; the strength guide goes deeper on labelling, and the strongest pouches ranking lists the top end product by product.
Frequently asked questions
What do the mg numbers on nicotine pouches mean?
Milligrams of nicotine per pouch — the amount in the pouch, not the amount you absorb (typically 20–40 % of it over an hour). A few brands print mg per gram instead, which is a concentration and reads higher than the per-pouch figure.
What strength nicotine pouch is equal to a cigarette?
A cigarette delivers roughly 1–2 mg of nicotine to the bloodstream. A 4–6 mg pouch, absorbed over an hour, gives a comparable amount, which is why 6 mg is the most common choice for people switching from smoking.
What is the strongest nicotine pouch?
DENSSI Tropical Fury 100mg at 100 mg per pouch in our data. See the strongest pouches ranking for the full list.
Is 6 mg strong?
6 mg is regular strength — the mainstream for both VELO and ZYN and the typical starting point for a smoker. It is too strong for someone who has never used nicotine; start at 2–3 mg.
What does ‘strong’ or ‘extra strong’ mean on the can?
There is no standard. For most Swedish-style brands, Strong is around 8–10 mg, Extra Strong 11–16 mg and anything labelled X-Strong or Ultra is 16 mg+. Read the mg figure, not the word.
