Who makes them
ZYN is made by Swedish Match, part of Philip Morris International since 2022, and is the best-selling nicotine pouch in the United States. VELO is made by BAT (British American Tobacco) and is the biggest pouch brand in Europe, having absorbed LYFT and Epok. Both are tobacco-free, both use nicotine salt, and both are sold by every store we compare.
Feel, moisture and format
ZYN pouches are drier (“all white”) and slightly firmer, which means less drip and a slower, smoother release; many people find them more discreet. VELO pouches are a little moister and softer, release faster, and come in more formats — mini, slim and the stronger “Max” slims — plus the VELO Plus moist line in some markets.
Pouches per can: European ZYN is 20–24 (minis 20–24, slims 20); VELO is usually 20. Both brands’ cans are the same size, so price per can is directly comparable.
Strength and flavours
ZYN’s European range runs from 1.5 mg to 16.5 mg per pouch, with 6 mg and 9–11 mg as the core. VELO runs from 4 mg minis to 17 mg Max, with 6, 8, 10 and 14 mg as the mainstays. Neither goes anywhere near the 20–50 mg of Pablo or Siberia. The tables above show exactly which strengths each brand has in stock today.
On flavours VELO is broader — mint, berry, citrus, tropical, coffee — while ZYN concentrates on mint variants (Cool Mint, Spearmint, Menthol Ice) plus a handful of fruit and coffee options. If you like one specific flavour, the flavour pages list every strength it comes in.

Frequently asked questions
Is ZYN or VELO cheaper?
Today ZYN is cheaper on average (€4.51 vs €4.67 per can at best prices). The cheapest single can is ZYN €4.35 vs VELO €1.15. Prices change daily; the product pages show every store.
Which has more flavours, ZYN or VELO?
VELO: 66 flavours against 31 in the stores we track.
Is ZYN or VELO stronger?
Their ranges overlap. VELO’s strongest (Max, 14–17 mg) is slightly above ZYN’s strongest European product (16.5 mg Menthol Ice). At the common 6 mg level they feel similar, with VELO releasing a little faster because the pouch is moister.
Is ZYN or VELO cheaper?
It changes daily and depends on the store. The price table above shows each brand’s cheapest in-stock can, average price and the store that is cheapest for the most products right now.
Which is better for quitting smoking?
Both work the same way. Start at 6 mg with either; VELO offers more small steps between strengths, which helps when stepping down later.
Is VELO the same as LYFT?
Yes — BAT renamed LYFT to VELO between 2021 and 2023. Same products.
